Junto a ambas películas, otras seis se disputarán el premio a Mejor Película del año: The Big Short (5 nominaciones en total), Bridge of Spies (6 nominaciones), Brooklyn (3 nominaciones), The Martian (7 nominaciones), Room (4 nominaciones) y Spotlight (6 nominaciones).

¿Las sorpresas? El amor desbordado por Mad Max: Fury Road. No tenemos nada en contra, al contrario, estamos felices y es una buena señal de que la Academia también aprecia este género de cintas. Charlotte Rampling a Mejor Actriz por 45 Years, bien merecido. Tom Hardy por The Revenant, completamente inesperado. Lenny Abrahamson a Mejor Director por Room.

Carol se quedó fuera de la carrera a Mejor Película, a pesar de tener 6 nominaciones en total, incluyendo Mejor Actriz y Actriz de Reparto. Star Wars: The Force Awakens también se quedó muy cerca, acumulando 5 nominaciones en total en categorías técnicas.
